Nature Repairs Itself
When Nature Repairs Itself: The Story of a Small Snail
*A Wonder We Rarely Notice*
——-
When we think of wonders in nature, we often imagine big animals or powerful forces.
But nature sometimes hides its greatest miracles inside small and silent creatures.
One such wonder lives in ponds and wetlands — the Golden Apple Snail.
*A Small Creature with a Big Ability*
This snail moves slowly and lives quietly. Yet, when it loses an eye, it does not remain blind.
Patiently, over several days, the eye grows back
the lens, the retina, and even the nerve connections.
Nature repairs what is lost.
*A Thought from Our Ancient Stories*
This idea of losing something precious and getting it back through devotion and surrender is not new to Indian thought.
In our Puranic tradition, there is the story of *Bhakta Kannappa*.
Kannappa was a simple hunter and a devoted follower of Lord Shiva.
When he saw blood flowing from Shiva’s eyes, he could not bear the pain.
Without hesitation, he offered his own eyes to Shiva.
Moved by this pure devotion, Shiva restored Kannappa’s eyesight and blessed him.
*Shiva as Nature – A Silent Connection*
If we look deeper, we may see a symbolic meaning.
Shiva can be seen as Nature itself —
the force that destroys, heals, and renews.
Kannappa gives his eyes without fear.
Nature responds by restoring sight.
In the same way, the small snail loses its eye —
and nature quietly gives it back.
The story from the Purana and the story from science meet at one point:
Nature has the power to repair, when there is balance and surrender.
*Science and Symbol Walking Together*
The snail does not pray.
The story does not explain biology.
Yet both tell us the same truth in different languages.
Science explains how regeneration happens.
Stories explain why we must respect nature.
One uses experiments.
The other uses emotion.
Both point towards wonder.
Message from Nature (and Tradition)
• Nature has the power to heal what is lost
• Devotion and surrender are also forms of strength
• Science and ancient wisdom need not oppose each other
• Small lives can carry great lessons
• Respecting nature is respecting life itself
• Wonders can be found in both laboratories and legends

Final Thought
A small snail in a pond
and a devoted hunter in a forest
tell us the same story in different ways.
Nature repairs.
Nature restores.
Nature inspires wonder.
That is why Wonders in Nature is not only about science —
it is also about understanding life.
