 పైకి పుట్టగొడుగులు పుట్టుకొస్తున్నాయి.  చెట్ల క్రింద కనిపించే ఈ పుట్టగొడుగులు వేరువేరు జీవుల్లా అనిపించినా వాస్తవం ఏమిటంటేవాటి క్రింద ఉన్న మైసీలియమ్ అనే తెల్లని నూలు వంటి నిర్మాణంఅంతా ఒకటే డిఎన్ఏ కలిగి ఉండటం. ఇది శాస్త్రవేత్తలను ఆశ్చర్యపరిచింది. నేల క్రింద మైళ్ల కొద్దీ పాకుతూ చెట్ల వేర్లను పట్టుకునిపెరుగుతుంటాయి. అక్కడక్కడా పైకి పుట్టగొడుగులను ఉత్పత్తిచేస్తుంటాయి. అంతే కాదు మరో ఆశ్చర్యకరమైన విషయం కూడాశాస్త్రవేత్తలు గుర్తించారు. ఈ అతి పెద్ద జీవి వయస్సు కూడా చాలాఎక్కువే. సుమారు ఎనిమిదివేల సంవత్సరాల క్రిందటే ఈ జీవిఆవిర్భవించి ఉంటుందని శాస్త్రవేత్తల అంచనా. 

 ఇంత పెద్ద జీవిగా పెరిగిన ఈ ఫంగస్ వల్ల పెద్దగా మేలు జరగడంలేదు. నేల మీద అందమైన పుట్టగొడుగులను పుట్టిస్తున్నా, ఇది భూమిలోపల చెట్ల వేర్లను ధ్వంసం చేస్తున్నాయి. అడవులను విధ్వంసంచేస్తున్నాయి. అందుకే దీన్ని “కిల్లర్ ఫంగస్” అంటున్నారు. 

  అతి పెద్ద జీవుల జాబితాలో దీని తర్వాతి స్థానం పైన ఉదాహరించినబ్లూ వేల్. దీని పొడవు వంద అడుగుల దాకా ఉంటుంది. బరువేమో150 టన్నులు. దీని గుండె ఓ చిన్న కారంత సైజ్ లో ఉంటుంది. ఇక చెట్లవిషయానికి వస్తే జనరల్ షెర్మన్ చెట్టు. ఇది 275 అడుగుల ఎత్తు దాకా పెరుగుతుంటుంది. బరువు 1,900 టన్నులు. 

   మన పురాణ కథల్లో వామనుడు ఇంతింతై..వటుడంతై..ఆకాశమంతైఎదిగినట్లు ఉంది. హనుమంతుడు ఆకాశమంత ఎత్తు ఎదిగిసముద్రాన్ని లంఘించినట్లు ఉంది. అలాగే జటాయువు అతి పెద్ద పక్షిగాచెప్పారు. ఇంకా, కాళింది అనే సర్పం చాలా పెద్దదన్న వర్ణనభాగవతంలో కనిపిస్తుంది. చెట్ల లో అశ్వత్థ వృక్షం అతి పెద్దదిగావర్ణించబడింది.

2. జీవితంలో పెరుగుదల నిదానంగా ఉండవచ్చు. ఇందులో తప్పులేదు. కానీ ప్రక్రియ మాత్రం ఆగకూడదు. 

3.ఈ భూమి మీద ఉన్న జీవులన్నీ ప్రకృతి మాతకు సమానమే. మనంగొప్ప అన్న భావనతో అడవులను నరికేయడం, ప్రకృతికి హానికలిగించడం వంటివి చేయకూడదు.
