Size: barely 13.5 millimetres

Body: almost transparent

గట్టిగా అరుపులు కేకలు పెట్టేవారు దగ్గరకు వస్తున్నారంటే చాలు చెవులు గట్టిగా మూసుకోవాలని అనిపిస్తుంటుంది కదా.   కొందరు అరుస్తుంటే చెవి దగ్గర తుపాకీ పేల్చినట్లు , జెట్ విమానం ప్రక్క నుంచే వెళ్ళినట్లు ఫీలైపోతాము.  అచ్చు ఇలాగే 

భయంకరమైన శబ్దం చేసే చేపలు ఉన్నాయి ! అందులో ఒక  చిన్న చేప కథ ఇది .  

  మన చేతి వేలి గోరంత మాత్రమే ఉండే  ఓ చేప గావుకేకలు పెట్టడంలో మాత్రం ఘనం! 

     దీని పేరు Danionella cerebrum.  మయన్మార్ లోని మంచినీటి సరస్సులు, కుంటల్లో ఉండే అతి సూక్ష్మమైన చేప ఇది.  బాగా పెరిగితేనే  దాని సైజ్ 13.5 మిల్లీమీటర్ల కూడా దాటదు.  ఇది పారదర్శకంగా ఉండే చేప. 

  సరే, ఇంత చిన్నది కావడంతో తొందరగా ఎవరి కంటికీ కనిపించదు. కానీ దీని అరుపు తీవ్రత మాత్రం మయన్మార్ వాసులకు తెలుసు.  దీన్ని  2023 లో గుర్తించేంత దాకా, మయన్మార్ లో అనేక కట్టుకథలు ప్రచారంలో ఉండేవట.  కంటికి కనబడదు, భయంకరమైన శబ్దాలు ఈ ”డింగరీ” గాడు చేస్తుంటే భయపడరా ఏంటి? ఇక్కడ   “గాడు” అని ఎందుకు అన్నానంటే, ఈ జాతి చేపల్లో మగవి మాత్రమే ఇలా నోరు పెట్టుకుని బతికేస్తున్నాయన్నమాట. 

 “మయన్మార్ జాతీయ సైన్స్ అకాడమీ” పరిశోధకులు ఈ వింత శబ్దాల ఆచూకీ కనిపెట్టాలని చాలా ఏళ్లు వెతికితే చివరకు ఈ “ఫింగర్ నెయిల్” ఫిష్ ఆచూకినీ అది చేసే శబ్ద రహస్యాన్ని పట్టేశారు. “ఇదర్రా అసలు సంగతి “ అనే చెప్పేసరికి మయన్మార్ వాసులు ఊపిరి పీల్చుకున్నారు. 

  ఈ చేపలు చేసే బయంకరమైన శబ్దాన్ని కొలిస్తే అది 140 డెసిబెల్స్ అని తేలింది.  ఇది తుపాకీ పేల్చడం వల్ల వచ్చే శబ్దానికీ లేదంటే జెట్ విమానం ఓ ఫర్లాంగ్ దూరం నుంచి పోతుంటే వచ్చే శబ్దానికి సమానం. 

  నిజానికి మనల్ని అంటే మానవజాతి తన శబ్దాలతో బయపెట్టాలని Danionella cerebrum  మగ చేపలు ఇలా బయకరమైన శబ్దాలు చేయడం లేదట.  దాని అవసరాలు దానివి. 

    శబ్ద తీవ్రత గురించి మరో రకంగా చెప్పాలంటే ఏనుగు చాలా దగ్గరగా వచ్చి చేసే ఘీంకారం (117 dB)కంటే ఇది ఎక్కువే. 

  ఈ చేప ఇంత బయకరమైన శబ్దం చేయగలగడానికి అనువైన అమరిక దాని శరీరంలో మొప్పలు ఉండే భాగంలోనే ఉంది.  డ్రమ్ ఆకారపు మృదులాస్థి, కండరాల కదలిక వల్ల శబ్దం పుడుతుందని శాస్త్రవేత్తలు చెబుతున్నారు. 

  కారణం లేకుండా ఏ జీవి ఐనా ఏ పనీ చేయదు కదా.  ఈ కోణంలో ఆలోచిస్తుంటే మరి కొన్ని ఆసక్తికరమైన సంగతలు వెలుగు చూశాయి. 

     మురుగు నీటి ప్రవాహం ఉండే చోట్లలో కొన్ని సార్లు కంటి చూపుకు అవసరమైన వెలుతురు లేక ఇబ్బంది ఎదురవుతుంటుంది . అప్పుడు తన ఉనికిని చెప్పడానికి ఒక సంకేతంలా చేప గట్టిగా అరిచేస్తుంది.  అంతే కాదు, మగ చాపల్లో బాగా అరిచే చాప చేసే శబ్దాన్ని  గుర్తించి దాన్ని కలవడానికి ఆడ చాపలు వస్తుంటాయట. దీంతో మగ జాతిలో పోటీ తత్వం పెరిగి గట్టిగా అరిచేస్తూ - “నేను గొప్ప అంటే, కాదు నేనే గొప్ప” అని అరుపులతో సంకేతాలు అందజేస్తుంటాయి. నచ్చిన సంకేతాన్ని బట్టి ఆడ చాపలు కదులుతుంటాయి. అదీ సంగతి. 

  ఇక, సముద్ర జలాల్లో Gulf corvina 202 dB స్థాయిలో  భయంకరమైన శబ్దం చేస్తుంది.  ఇక్కడ కూడా ఆడ జాతిని ఆకట్టుకునే తపన తోనే ఈ జాతి మగ చేపలు అరిచేస్తుంటాయి. 

  అరవడంలో ఘనకీర్తి గడించిన వాటిలో Snapping Shrimp అనే రొయ్య జాతి (218 dB), Plainfin Midshipman  అనే చేప (130 dB) కూడా ఉన్నాయి. 

   మొత్తానికి కనిపించే ఆకారానికి అది చేసే బయంకర శబ్దానికి పొంతన లేకపోవడంలో Danionella cerebrum చేప అవార్డు కొట్టేసింది.
